“From the ages of 4 to 13, my life resembled a whirlwind, with five different shelters across seven different states serving as temporary homes. ”

My trauma recovery story is one that emerged from a childhood marked by adversity and chaos.I was born to parents who were both trapped in the grip of complex trauma, their struggles casting a shadow over my early years. From the ages of 4 to 13, my life resembled a whirlwind, with five different shelters across seven different states serving as temporary homes. The instability of those years left an indelible mark on my soul, but it was only the beginning of my journey.

Both of my parents were functioning drug addicts, and their addiction was the backdrop to my tumultuous upbringing. As a young child, I was forced to navigate a world where the people who were supposed to protect and nurture me were ensnared in their own trauma and addictions. From age 8 to22, I endured complex trauma at the hands of those who should have provided love and stability. These experiences left me scarred and searching for an escape.

As a young adult, I coped by burying my trauma deep within, thinking I could carry it silently and move on with life. I believed I could outrun my past, but this strategy only perpetuated a cycle of pain. It wasn't until the age of 33 that I finally sought help. It was time to confront the darkness that had overshadowed my life for far too long.

My journey through therapy and the necessary healing work was a grueling, yet transformative process. I had to face the demons of my past, the deep-seated wounds that had festered for so many years. As I dug deep into my own psyche, I uncovered the impact of my negative decisions and their profound influence on my life and relationships. It was a sobering realization that my past had cast a long shadow on my present. But I refused to be defined by my trauma. Instead, I used it as a catalyst for change. I found strength within myself, resilience I never knew I possessed.

Through the process of trauma recovery, I began to piece my life back together. It was a journey toward self-discovery, a journey to reclaim my life. With dedication and perseverance, I not only healed but thrived. The scars of my past became the foundation of my purpose. I transformed into a CEO of a trauma recovery nonprofit, I Am BeautifulBecause. My goal was to create safe spaces for women and girls who, like me, had endured their own trials and tribulations. I wanted to provide them with the support, resources, and guidance to heal, grow, and regain their sense of self-worth.

It's never too late, and it's never too early to start your healing process. My story stands as a testament to this truth. Trauma recovery allowed me to process my pain, confront my demons, and create a sustainable solution for a healthier, balanced life.I was finally free to become the person I had always desired to be, unburdened by the weight of my past. My journey serves as a reminder that we can rise from the depths of trauma and emerge stronger, more resilient, and capable of creating positive change not only in our own lives but also in the lives of others.
