WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS THINK

Our commitment

As a beauty brand created by a hairstylist who knows the magic that happens in the salon chair. It’s more than just a place for great hair, it’s where real conversations, connection, and self care unfold. That same energy is what we bring into every shampoo and conditioner bar we make.

We had no idea that what started out as a solution for curls and coils would grow to be loved by many hair types. During our founder’s wellness journey, she discovered the power of simplifying routines, choosing cleaner ingredients, and reducing waste. That’s how our eco-friendly, solid bars were born and why we’re passionate about making sustainable haircare feel personal, not perfect because when many people start making small conscious decisions the impact on the environment is so impactful.

Our mission is to continue building a brand that includes everyone who wants healthy hair and a cleaner routine. At the end of the day, we’re not just about bars. We’re about wellness, community, and doing beauty a little differently, with care, kindness, and intention.

Color + Blow

Color + Blow empowers wellness from

and ethical haircare. Simplifying self-care with cleaner, thoughtfully chosen ingredients, and reducing waste with every wash. This isn’t just haircare. It’s a lifestyle rooted in intention.

4C Wash Day Routine (Post-Big Chop + Hair Shedding Recovery)

by Diana, Founder of Color + Blow

About a year ago, I decided to cut all my hair off. Actually twice. Why? Dealing with low iron and anemia from fibroids, I was shedding so much that I knew I had to start over. My hair was telling me something my body already knew and it was time to take the wellness journey that I had already started to another level and actually do more of what it meant to take care of yourself from the inside out.

Today, I’m in the thick of my regrowth journey, and I’ve built a wash day routine that’s helped me strengthen and protect my 4C hair. Now, I'm not usually a hair typing kinda girl, but I recognize that it helps people when they have sort of a baseline to think about when it comes to choosing products and routines that work best for their hair.

Here’s exactly how I do it:

🔁 Wash Day Frequency: Every 7–14 days
I try to wash weekly, but life happens, and I sometimes stretch it to two weeks. The key is paying attention to my scalp, itchiness, buildup, or dryness tells me it’s time.

🧼 Step 1: Cleanse with Moisture in Mind

  • Product: Color + Blow Moisturizing Shampoo Bar

  • I gently rub the bar directly into my hair, but you can also lather it into your hands first, then apply the suds directly to your hair. It's a preference thing.

  • I massage with my fingertips to stimulate circulation and lift buildup especially important after wearing any kind of protective styles.

  • Rinse thoroughly with warm water to open the cuticle and allow moisture to get into your hair in the next steps.

💡 Why this matters: After shedding from anemia, I didn’t want anything harsh. This shampoo bar gives me a clean, hydrated start without stripping my hair. Healthier ingredients is why I stated the brand in the first place, but who knew it would have even more meaning after experiencing my own challenges.

🧴 Step 2: Deep Condition & Detangle

  • Product: Color + Blow Conditioner Bar

  • I glide the conditioner bar directly onto my hair and the product comes off into your hair really well.

    • I use the Felicia Leatherwood Detangling Brush to gently detangle from ends to roots while the conditioner is still in.
  • Double Condition Method: After the first application of conditioner, I very lightly rinse, reapply conditioner, and then detangle again for extra softness. You'll really feel the difference in your hair. So manageable.

  • When I have time, I swap this step out for a steam treatment. The steam helps open up my hair cuticle and deeply hydrates my hair. I generally do 30 minutes, but if you have more time.. go for it!

💧 Step 3: Lock in Leave-In Moisture

  • Product: Lightweight Leave-In (personal fave, depending on the season). Here used the Kenra Lightweight Pearl Detangler.

  • I spray it all over my hair and brush it through with the detangling brush before styling.

  • This step helps seal in the moisture from the conditioner and preps my hair for styling.

🌀 Step 4: Style & Protect (Mini Twists)

  • Styling Product: Moisturizing mousse (to avoid flakes) and keep my hair light weight. Here I used The Doux Mousse Def Texture Foam

  • I eyeball small sections, I don't part for this and do mini twists, my go-to protective style right now.

  • These help reduce manipulation, preserve moisture, and give my hair a break.

  • I wear the twists for half the week, then take them out for a soft, defined twist-out for the remainder.

💡 Why twists? They’re low stress, perfect for the gym, and  it's like I get two styles in one.

🌱 Post-Wash Care

  • I sleep in a satin bonnet or use a silk pillowcase to protect my hair at night.

  • The steam from the shower helps me to refresh my hair during the week. After a shower i'll either add tiny bit of the mousse for shine or a little light oil on my fingertips to refresh the twist-out and keeps ends from drying out between washes.

🎯 Final Thoughts

My wash day has become a routine, not a chore. Sometimes i feel like doing it more than others but always love the outcome. What started with cutting it all off became a chance to regrow with thought… with cleaner ingredients, intentional care, and products I created along with a few others because I needed them.

SHAMPOO BARS EXPLAINED: LOW-TOX HAIRCARE 101

What Is a Shampoo Bar?

A shampoo bar is a solid, waterless alternative to traditional liquid shampoo—created to cleanse your scalp and hair just as effectively, but with low-tox ingredients and zero plastic waste.

Instead of coming in a plastic bottle, a shampoo bar is compact, travel-friendly, and activated by water and friction. It lathers just like a liquid shampoo (honestly most times better) but with way less waste and way more intention.

What Makes It Low-Tox?

Shampoo bars skip the sulfates, silicones, and synthetic additives found in many traditional shampoos. Instead, they rely on gentle, biodegradable ingredients that clean without stripping your scalp’s natural balance.

So you’re getting a fresh, healthy scalp and soft, manageable hair—without the unnecessary chemicals.

🌿 How Does It Work?

When activated with warm water, shampoo bars release a rich lather that lifts buildup, excess oil, and impurities from the scalp, leaving your hair refreshed and your conscience clear.

Key ingredients often include:

  • Plant-based surfactants (like our coconut-derived cleansers) to foam and cleanse gently

  • Soothing botanicals (like chamomile or marshmallow root) to calm the scalp

  • Natural powders (like rice protein) to detox and strengthen

  • Essential oils to support scalp health and leave a clean, natural scent

At Color + Blow, we formulate our shampoo bars to make sure they would lather from the most dense texture all the way to fine hair, color treated, or even dry hair—so they lather richly, rinse cleanly, and leave your scalp feeling nourished, not squeaky.

✈️ Why People Love Shampoo Bars:

  • Low-tox + sustainable: No harsh ingredients, no plastic bottles

  • Perfect for travel: No spills, no TSA issues

  • Long-lasting: One bar replaces 2–3 bottles of shampoo

  • Minimal buildup: Formulated without fillers, so your hair stays lighter, longer

💡 How to Use a Shampoo Bar:

  1. Wet your hair thoroughly and wet the bar.

  2. Rub the bar between your hands to create lather, or swipe it directly onto your scalp.

  3. Massage into your scalp and roots using fingertips.

  4. Rinse well and follow with your Color + Blow conditioner bar.

  5. Let the bar dry fully between uses by storing it in a well-draining container or soap dish.

Remember that when you make the switch from traditional liquid shampoos to a solid shampoo bar made with clean, low-tox ingredients, your hair and scalp go through an adjustment phase. This is completely normal and temporary.Your scalp starts to rebalance its natural oils, so it takes a few wash days for your hair to adjust. Stick with it, and you’ll soon notice: A more balanced scalp, softer, cleaner hair and less overall  product use.
